Dr. Tamo has very deep roots here in Toronto. She was born, raised, and educated here, so she takes great pride in seeing her city grow and improve as time goes by. Always ready to do her part when it comes to helping people, she has been a long-time supporter of three well-respected charities: The Roberta Bondar Foundation, the Jays Care Foundation, and the SickKids Foundation. By routinely donating her time and money to these organizations, she hopes to put smiles on even more people’s faces.
The Roberta Bondar Foundation™
The Roberta Bondar Foundation ™ is a nonprofit organization that teaches the public about the importance of environmental sustainability, provides education on protecting natural species, and identifies human dependence on a balanced ecosystem with the use of nature photography taken by former astronaut Dr. Roberta Bondar. By using images to illustrate the group’s main goals, Dr. Bondar can teach a universal audience to embrace the environment and participate in ethical behaviour regarding sustainability.
Jays Care Foundation
An extension of our own Toronto Blue Jays, the mission of the Jays Care Foundation is to make sure that all children and youth in Canada have a level playing field. They run several programs designed to create easier access to sport and recreational opportunities for chronically underserved populations, including children living with disabilities and/or below the poverty line. By giving children the extra help they need, the Foundation hopes to unlock their full potential so both Toronto and the world can benefit from what makes them special.
Hospital for Sick Children Rebuilding Fund
We have partnered with SickKids Foundation to help raise money to rebuild the hospital. They provide exceptional care for saving lives and finding new cures, but they are now working against the limits of a 70-year-old building. In order to meet modern building codes and continue providing vulnerable patients with the most up-to-date medical treatment, SickKids is looking to raise $1.3 billion dollars. We are doing our part to help them continue doing what they do best! That’s where you come in. We need you on our side in the SickKids VS Limits Campaign, the biggest fundraising campaign in Canadian health-care history, to help us build a brand-new hospital.
